Creepy Crafting - Halloween Bunting

What do I do when I have a day off but it's too hot and expensive outside? I do Halloween crafts of course!

Today's craft project is actually a very practical one as this garland bunting is going to be part of the decor/background for my Halloween Collection shoot (collection dropping end of August). I love a bit of handmade Halloween and my scrap bin is always full of great fabrics to use so I started there.

This project is actually no sew, so is a great one to try!

Step 1: I found as much scrap as I could in black, orange and purple. If the black fabric was black and white that was fine too. The pieces needed to be pretty long as I wanted to make bunting similar to the ribbon, garland style bunting that I see around. I also wanted mine to have a vintagey Halloween feel so the colours needed to be the classic palette.

Step 2: Once I'd cut a big pile of scrap fabric into strips I stared tying the fabric on to some garden twine I had, it gave it a nice rustic look. Tying the fabric on was by fair the longest part of this DIY!

Step 3: I didn't mind the fabric being slightly different lengths as I was planning to trim it a bit at the end. I stopped every now and then just to get a look at how all the colours were working together and if I needed to add anymore colours in.

Step 4: I actually ran out of fabric pretty quick and had to cut a load more strips!

Step 5: About halfway along the twine I realised I needed to space it all out a little as it tended to bunch up as I was tying the fabric on and was hiding a lot of the patterns. So after a few minutes tying I would space things out a little bit, before continuing and that helped it look much better.

Step 6: I then hung up the full garland (I just stopped when I ran out of fabric for the 2nd time) to get a proper look at it and do a little trimming to give it a fuller look. I wanted the bunting to have a slightly ragged look, like a vintage Halloween clown costume, so I wasn't too precise with how I trimmed the ends.

This was a really lovely project and probably only took about an hour or so but I think it's super effective and I can't wait to style it with my Halloween collection, keep your eyes peeled for that!
