Creepy Crafting: Summerween Spooky Jumper

A few years ago now I made my version of a vintage 90s Halloween jumper/cardigan, read that post here. This time I wanted to revisit it and make a new version to wear in the summer, or rather for Summerween which is the spooky summer twin to Halloween.

I started by sorting the fit out on my base garment. I decided to use a knitted black cardigan/ vest I found in the charity shop as it was already in my wardrobe but as it had very wide shoulders I needed to adjust that. I cut the shoulders down on my overlocker, this meant the knit didn't unravel and I could then just hem the sleeve holes on my regular machine. To finish off the base vest I added a blanket stitch all around the edge in a chartreuse green chunky thread to mirror the look of the 90s Halloween vests.

Then I started creating the Summerween embellishments. I had bought bright felt for this part and originally I was going to use red felt for the Jack-o-melon mouth and eyes but the pink and lime green felt was more my style and looked really good altogether against the black cardigan. It took a few hours to get all the Jack-o-melon and bats sewn, I watched Dog Soldiers while I made them.

I then pinned them in place and tried the vest on each time so I could get the placement right. Once it was all sewn down in place I made a few extra bats to fill in the gaps and it was done! I'm so pleased with it and can't wait to wear it at my next market stall at Stalls From The Crypt in Nottingham on Sunday.
